Here’s a training video of Whitney Gould taken shortly before the 2026 World Fly Casting Championships. Whitney went on to win three of the six events in the championships, took third place in two others, and finished fifth in one. She is now the overall world champion.
In this clip, she’s practicing trout accuracy. The targets range from 25-50 feet, and are smaller than those used at the world championships. Line length must be changed while false casting. The wind is strong and swirly, making things extremely difficult. It’s also a timed event, adding further difficulty. At 1:50, she ticks the water on a false cast due to a wind gust; her subsequent cast at that target would not count, but for our purposes she continues on.
This is what expert level fly casting in tough conditions looks like.
