It’s been a few years since I analyzed Karlie Loftice’s casting stroke (Karlie Roland in the earlier video; she married in the interim). At that time, she had just begun working on incorporating her wrist in a consistent and more efficient manner. She relied too much on her upper arm to accelerate the rod and not enough on her wrist, leading to an overall arm position that was too high and physically taxing.
In this video we can see that she’s now using her wrist consistently, in the right amount, and at the right time (I’ve covered the details of wrist usage in other videos). Consequently, she’s been able to lower her arm position, making casting a less taxing and more enjoyable endeavor. Her stroke looks far less mechanical now.
Altering our stroke mechanics takes time and discipline, but it’s always worth it in the end. Karlie has become a much better caster, and I admire her for the work she’s put in. Really well done. This is a fine stroke to emulate.
