Firehole River Risers

Here’s a photo I took a couple days ago showing a group of fine Firehole River fish feeding during Baetis hatch. Scenes like this have been scarcer than normal this season. Prolonged inclement weather and erratic snowmelt have conspired to keep the river far from prime condition, affecting both fly and fish. I believe it could be another ten days before things really sort themselves out. On the plus side, a lot of the rising fish I’ve seen and caught have been in the 12-14 inch range. I’ll take that any day, even if conditions aren’t perfect.
